What could be more cheerful than a bright little red, yellow and blue bird darting from branch to branch? The Painted Bunting fits this description. During January, February and March the Painted Bunting can be seen at Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples, Florida. The morning that I saw the Painted Buntings, they were flying from the bird feeder to the nearby tree branches and back again. My painting entitled “Painted Bunting” records that visit.

Hi, Christine. I stumbled onto your blog and beautiful watercolors in my search for Painted Bunting images. We live in inland SW Florida and have had Painted Buntings at our feeders the past two winters. This winter we have frequent daily visits from 1 male and 3 green PB’s that apparently “live” in the thickets that border the creek along the western edge of our property. They are absolutely stunning. I suspect they will be heading north very soon.
Hi Patricia,
It was nice to hear about the Painted Buntings that frequent your bird feeders in SW Florida. I can’t think of anything that would brighten up one’s day more than seeing these colorful little birds. Thanks for commenting!
I have 4 males and at least 4 greens that have been coming to my feeders since Nov. I live in Florida. There are also…at least 4 male Indigo Buntings and several browns.
I have had a great time photographing them and watching the change of colors.
Very nice site
